The skies above Hollywood will not be quite as brightly lit. This is due to one of the biggest and brightest stars having dimmed as Olivia Newton-John lost her long time battle with breast cancer on Monday, August 8, 2022.
The Australian Superstar died at her Southern California Home surrounded by family.
The breathy innocence of her voice mixed with her down home (or should we say down under) wholesome beauty combined to make Olivia Newton John one of the biggest stars of country and pop hit music during the 1970's and her role as the sweet, innocent though slightly naive, "Sandra Dee," who is rebuffed by, "Danny," (played by John Travolta) after crossing paths unexpectedly when school resumes after a whirlwind summer romance. Olivia returns as, "Sandy," who is no longer quite so sweet, innocent or naive and returns ready to school, "Danny," in the ways of love in the blockbuster hit movie, "Grease." The movie boosted both Olivia and John's careers into superstardom.
The movie was not only a hit at the time of it's release, but has continued to charm and delight generation after generation of audiences all over the world.
Olivia first began her career after winning a talent contest on a T.V. Show called, "Sing, sing, sing." As a teen, she began appearing on various pop and hit music programs with the all girl group she created. The shows were mostly in Australia.
It was not until her 1973 hit, "Let Me Be There," which found it's way onto both country and adult contemporary charts that she became noticed by U.S. Audiences and with several back to bank #1 hits such as the easy listening, "I Honestly Love You," once she had the attention of U.S. Audiences, she never let it go.
Her long career in both movies and music earned her four Grammy Awards and album sales of over 100 million.
Tragedy did pay the superstar an occasional visit. The breast cancer diagnosis forced her to postpone and even cancel several tours and in 2005, Patrick McDermott, who was her boyfriend at the time disappeared at sea during a fishing trip off the California Coast and the unsolved mystery of his disappearance haunted the Star for years.
While her career seemed to have slowed in later years, she never stopped performing and recording including recording with her Daughter Chloe.
And while her Star may have dimmed at her passing, her talent and contribution to the world of movies and music will live on insuring that her Star will shine eternal.
AV Street Beats sends out deepest sympathy and heartfelt condolences to her husband John and Daughter Chloe as well as all her family and friends and her fans worldwide.
The family has requested that people please respect their privacy at this sad time.
She will live on in our hearts and memories. Rest in Peace Olivia Newton-John. We Honestly Love You.
