If you were driving over the posted speed limit Wednesday Morning, you may have received one of the more than 60 citations that were issued in only two hours on April 27 as part of The Antelope Valley Traffic Task Force 2 hour speed Enforcement operation on Avenue L and 5th Street West.
In a news release by Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department, officials started that the operation was part of an ongoing effort to reduce the number of speed related fatal traffic and injury collisions in Antelope Valley.
. According to sheriff's, in 2020 there were 29 collisions resulting in fatalities and over 800 injury accidents. In the collisions resulting in fatalities, over 60% of the time speed was a contributing factor.
. Formed in 2020 The Antelope Valley Traffic Task Force is a collaborative effort of both Lancaster and Palmdale Traffic Units as well as officers from the Antelope Valley Area California Highway Patrol.
. And fair warning, the task force will be conducting further speed enforcement operations similar to the one which tool place on April 27, here in the Antelope Valley in the very near future. The sheriff's would like to remind all motorists to slow down, pay attention, drive defensively and drive sober.
